Alton Bay Seaplane Base and Ice Runway

Nestled in the southern end of Lake Winnipesaukee, Alton Bay offers a seaplane base in the summer. In the winter it is the only groomed/plowed ice runway in the USA, maintained by the New Hampshire Department of Transportation. When the ice reaches 12 inches thick the runway is available for wheeled aircraft to operate.
